The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) Basic Inspector Academy
(BIA) is a free, three-and-a-half-day training class open to State, local, and
tribal environmental enforcement staff. BIA gives environmental inspectors
across California the core skills necessary to conduct thorough, effective
inspections to implement environmental programs operating under the CalEPA
BIA provides students with knowledge about key concepts that form the foundation
for effective environmental enforcement as well as experience. Students apply
what is learned in class as they complete
mock-inspection and court-testimony exercises. To learn more about this class and the upcoming schedule, please view the
Basic Inspector Academy Flyer.
A prerequisite to Course #310 is the online Fundamental Inspector Course #300
(FIC). This FIC course takes approximately four to six hours to complete, and
covers the role of the inspector; the science of environmental pollution; an
overview of environmental law; and CalEPA agencies' roles and responsibilities.
FIC must be completed before enrolling in BIA.
